LEONARD SHAYKIN is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tapestry Pharmaceuticals. He is also the founder of Shaykin & Co., LLC, a private investment and management company and was a managing partner of Adler & Shaykin (1983-1994), an investment partnership organized to sponsor leveraged buyouts. Prior to forming Adler & Shaykin, Mr. Shaykin was Vice President, Director and a member of the Investment Committee of Citicorp Venture Capital Ltd. and Citicorp Capital Investors, Ltd., where he was responsible for establishing and subsequently managing a $100 million equity fund dedicated to management leveraged buyouts. From 1970 to 1974, Mr. Shaykin was an investment officer at First Chicago Investment Corporation and First Capital Corporation of Chicago, the equity and venture capital investment vehicles of First Chicago Corporation. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago (B.A., M.A.) and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business (M.B.A.).
HA VIET NGUYEN has been an advisor on approximately $2.5 billion worth of investment deals in Vietnam and in Asia. From 1993–1997, he worked with Helen Yeo & Partners, Singapore. Then from 1998–2005, he was Deputy Director of D&N International Company, Vietnam and since 2005, he has been Chairman and General Director of Vikoa JVC, Hanoi, Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen's expertise is in intellectual property, real estate, and structuring in-bound foreign investment. He attended Hanoi National University and graduated with degrees in English and Law. Mr. Nguyen also earned a degree from the Georgetown University Law Center, with a focus on intellectual property protection. Mr. Nguyen also has an extensive network of relationships with various levels of the Vietnamese government.
JEFFREY C. BROWNE is president of the Public Policy Forum, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization that promotes good local government and studies policy issues. His major research has focused on economic competitiveness; workforce and housing diversity; education reform; philanthropic giving; tax, environmental, and justice policy; and public opinion surveys. Mr. Browne joined Forum in 1995 and became president in April 2002. Before joining the Forum, Mr. Browne had a 25-year career in journalism. He currently serves on the boards of the National Urban League affiliate in Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Teacher Education Center. Nationally, he has served as a member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council and as vice president of the Governmental Research Association. Mr. Browne is the father of two adopted children who were born in Vietnam and is currently engaged in building business, cultural, philanthropic, and educational bridges between Vietnam and the United States.
CLARK M. MERKLEY is currently the Senior VP for Health Plan Management at Fortune Industries, an Indianapolis based managed care company. Formerly Mr. Merkley was Sr. VP for Planning and Development at Fortis Insurance Company, Wisconsin which is now Assurant Health, a subsidiary of publicly traded Assurant Inc. He was responsible for overall coordination of strategic and operational planning of a $2 billion health insurance company doing business in 48 states. His team also led mergers & acquisitions. Prior to his position at Fortis, Mr. Merkley was an associate attorney at Ross & Hardies (now known as McGuire Woods), Chicago, IL. He represented various health care entities in a wide variety of corporate and regulatory matters, including corporate organization, operation and acquisitions. Mr. Merkley earned his Juris Doctorate at University of Chicago Law School and his M.B.A., also at the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business. In addition, Mr. Merkley has a B.S. in Zoology from Brigham Young University.
